Requests and questions: which to use

A question wants an answer. A request wants a person.

Ask a question when a written answer would finish it. It stays on the site, gets upvotes, and the next person with the same problem finds it.

Open a request when you need someone's time: a review, a walkthrough, a mock interview, a call. People offer, you pick one, and the two of you talk.

Getting an answer

  • Put the actual question in the title.
  • Say what you tried and what happened.
  • Paste the error, not a description of the error.
  • Mark the answer that solved it. It is how the person who helped gets credit, and how readers know which one worked.
